Question of The Week – Q5

What is your quirkiest habit and how long have you had it?

My answer to last week’s question –

  • Never stop believing (in God, in love, in family and friends).
  • Never take anyone for granted.
  • Never drink alcohol (not even a sip to taste).

PS – If you are new to my blog, every week I post a question for you guys to answer and I give my answer to the previous week’s question. You are more than invited to join in the fun. Cheers!

The Best Host For Your Website

Hello there!

When I migrated to a custom, self hosted wordpress.org domain, there were so many recommendations for hosting sites online. I almost went to go with bluehost (which is what wordpress recommends), but was able to find some real critiques about it and decided to go for hostgator. Here’s why I think hostgator is the best to host your website.

  1. Free domain – You get a free custom domain through hostgator. Other hosting services, like Siteground and A2 hosting, charge $14.95 (almost $15) for your domain.
  2. 45 day money back guarantee – Yup, that’s right. Usually, almost every hosting site has a 30 day money back guarantee, providing they have a money back guarantee. Hostgator however has a 45 day money back guarantee, to get your money back from the CEO itself, if you are not satisfied with their service.
  3. 99.9% uptime guarantee – Uptime is the availability of your website. “The availability of your website is our top priority. We stand by that fact with our uptime guarantee!”
  4. 24/7/365 support – 24 hour support, all day, everyday. Their support staff is available 24/7/365 to assist you via Telephone, LiveChat, or Email with any hosting-related issues.
  5. They are with you every step of the way – I have contacted their staff on live chat, a lot of times, because it was my first time migrating and I didn’t know what I was doing. They helped me out through everything. It was so easy getting help and the staff were very helpful and friendly.
  6. Get started quickly and easy – If you are setting up a new website, their own HostGator Website Builder provides an incredibly convenient drag-and-drop building experience. You can choose from a wide selection of themes, and even pre-built sections, to craft your own amazing website and publish it in no time!
  7. Dedicated migrations team – Do you already have a website? They have a dedicated migration team standing by to transfer your existing content from your prior host and configure it to perform optimally on their platform. They also transfer domain registrations from other registrars to provide you complete management of your entire online portfolio all in one place!
  8. Use promo codes for discounts –  Promo codes are used to provide the customer with a discount. Try using this promo code –
  • NUSPROMO25 – Get 25% Off All New Hosting Packages With HostGator! – 25% discount on New Hosting Plans.
  • NUSPROMO60 – Up to 60% off + $4.99 on select domains at HostGator.com!
  • NUSPROMO1 – Only One Penny For Your First Month Of Hosting With HostGator! – $9.94 discount on One Month Hatchling Plan.

Here’s a review on the, Best Web Hosting Sites 2017.

I rest my case. I was suggested to talk about hosting sites through Suggest A Topic, by a person who was considering migrating their free site to self host, which is a really good option. Why? The reason is pretty simple – if you want to build a blog that is taken seriously by search engines and readers alike you’ll want to avoid free hosts.

Made your mind up about Hostgator? Great choice! Click here to get started.

I was totally bias on hostgator in this article, because it’s what I use and I love it! If I have the time, I’ll post again on some other hosting sites as well.

With Love.

My answer to last week’s question –

Is Your Phone A Distraction?

Is there a deadline you have to meet? An exam you have to study for? Is your phone being a distraction?

To make it more useful, do you have a bad habit of drunk texting? 😬

Well, if you do, here’s the solution.

  • Download the app, Keep Me Out, it’s completely free.

(I’m not sure if it’s there in the Apple App store, but if you are an android user, it’s definitely there in the Play store.)

I’ve been using it for around 2 months now. I downloaded it to concentrate more on my studies.

Keep Me Out allows you to lock yourself out of your mobile device for a time period that you want.

You can enjoy some quality, device-free and distraction-free time!

You will still have access to the lock screen and its widgets, so you can still make emergency calls and answer calls.

What’s even better?

  • Keep Me Out allows you to lock your self out, but once you reboot your device it’ll get unlocked (default setting). If that’s not device-free enough for you, you can also opt for the setting which doesn’t let you back in even if you reboot your device until the period of time ends. So you’ve got two options to chose from.
  • You can set up scheduled periodic locks. This way you don’t have to worry about setting it up, if you have a fixed schedule for everyday.

It really is a good app.

Also, incase you were wondering, I don’t know the developer of this app, neither am I getting any commission for this post. LOL! 😂 (Even if I post something for a commission, it’ll be something which I personally think would really help you guys. You are my readers after all, I’ll never take advantage of you.)

This app helps me immensely, and I hope it helps you too. I’m going to lock myself out for 3 hours now. See you again in 3 hours! 🙃

With Love.

Question Of The Week – Q3

What do you think is the single best decision you’ve made in your life so far?

My answer to last week’s question –

I don’t have any regrets. I believe everything I have gone through in my life has shaped me up and helped me become the person I am, and I’m proud of that.

Oh and yeah, I regret every single tear my mum has ever shed a single tear because of me (she doesn’t cry because of me all the time you guys, just once in a blue moon). Yup, that is be my biggest regret.

With Love.

PS – If you are new to my blog, every Thursday I post a question for you guys to answer and I give my answer to the previous week’s question. You are more than invited to join in the fun. Cheers!

Quick Request

Hey guys!

Do you use the WordPress reader to read other blogs? Are you unable to comment or search them through the WordPress reader? Please comment and let me know so I can get it sorted on my blog.

P.S – You probably can’t comment through this if you are using the WordPress reader. In that case could you kindly visit my blog in the browser and comment there?

Here’s how you do it if you didn’t know.

  • Go to the blog on your reader.

  • Open what ever post you want. Click on the globe icon at the top right hand side corner of the screen.

  • It’ll take you to a page of the same post. Scroll down. You’ll see a page like this (if Google Chrome is your web browser). Comment on the box. Suggestion – Press on the three dots on the top right hand side corner of the screen.

  • You’ll get a drop down menu like this. Check the box ‘Request desktop site’ to view how it looks on a desktop (which is the best view of a website).

  • You’ll get a page like this.

  • Scroll down. Comment.

This is how you view any site you want on a browser.

I personally think it’s better to read blogs on the browser, because on the reader all blogs look the same. That’s kinda boring.

Happy Reading!

Cheers!

Relationships And Men – Expectations

Well, interesting topic isn’t it? I mean, the Internet is flooded with what a woman wants, and it’s kinda sexist when you think about it.

“Wait. What’s that you are saying darling? Sexism?”

“No, I never said anything like that. I swear!”

*See what I mean?*

Anyway, before we start this off, let’s look at some random *facts* about men, shall we?

  • Men can slip into a coma while sitting in a retail store chair waiting for you to come out of the fitting room.
  • A woman speaks about 7,000 words a day; a man speaks about 2,000.
  • Men like gadgets with lots of fancy shiny black buttons.  It makes them feel dang important.
  • Getting a man organized is like herding a cat or pushing a rope uphill.
  • Most men have a disease.  It’s called open-cupboard-itis.  It can also be commonly referred to as open-drawer-itis.  Even when dealt with swiftly, this contagious disease re-occurs over and over again.
  • Crying in front of your man, is technically blackmail.  Use sparingly and only in an emergency. Be prepared to look like a hot mess for it to truly be effective.
  • If something can be interpreted in two ways, and one of the ways makes a woman sad or angry, a man would have probably meant the other one.
  • Don’t ask them what they’re thinking.  Men can think about nothing for hours.

These random facts actually speak for themselves, no? But for those needing actual information, (other than the above, I emphasize on the above very much because they are just awesome) look no further than further below. (As in, you know, continue reading.. Please.)

  1. Character –

Starting off with a true but relatable quote – “Beauty is nothing but skin deep – is a skin deep saying.” Read it again.

Being truly beautiful has nothing to do with what you look like, but everything to do with who you are. There’s countless beautiful women out there whose personalities are about as appealing as a public restroom’s toilet seat. Yes, you read that right. I’m sorry but it’s absolutely true.  We actually want someone who puts as much time into looking good to being genuine and real.

We see you laugh uncontrollably with your friends, so laugh with us. We love women who have senses of humor and don’t take life so seriously. So hungry you wanna order one large pizza for yourself? Or two? Then do. Get that ketchup all over your face, make a mess. We don’t care, we’ll only love you more for being you, with us.

You know that Drake song when he says, “Sweatpants, hair tied, chillin’ with no makeup on, that’s when you’re the prettiest…”?

Well, he’s right.

We love when you get dressed up and feel beautiful, but know that you don’t need to flip a switch from your real self in order to gain our acceptance.

If there ever comes a point when you feel a need to do that, well, you’re just with the wrong man.

  1. Affection –

Men are very physical human beings.

It goes without saying that a woman who is very free with her offerings of affection will entice us. It’s very warm and welcoming to a man.

Just like you, we want a woman to reach out and grab our hand; we want for you to come over and kiss us randomly; we want for you to hug us and ask us how our day was. It evokes this feeling of being wanted.

It just strengthens that connection we have with you and opens up lines of communication, but more importantly, makes us feel comfortable — invited in, so to speak.

  1. Confidence –

Life is difficult.

Every day is a struggle to get through and having a confident woman by your side is key to pursuing your dreams.

A woman who loves herself, regardless of her own flaws, will love a man for all of his. Beyond loving you, she will knock down the doors of resistance and reach for the stars with you.

There’s something sexy about a confident woman, and it has nothing to do with looks.

If we found ourselves attracted to you, know that we aren’t analyzing every inch of your body to find perfection. That doesn’t exist, and we aren’t looking for it. And if we do truly love you, well, all of your imperfections become perfect. Perfect imperfections. Yes, I quoted John Legend there. (GOOO JOHN, YOU DA MAN!)

4. Intelligence –

Stimulating conversations make a man go crazy.

Intelligent women are ones who know so much about the world around them, but even more so, have a keen interest in making it a better place.

They think critically and engage our senses. Furthermore, they have this drive to be successful, which in itself, can be the biggest turn on there is.

The decisions we face in life can often present us with uncertainty and having someone insightful by our side can help us make the right ones.

This doesn’t require a degree from Harvard, or any degree for that matter, just intellect, reasoning and understanding.

  1. Trust, yo! –

I mean, c’mon now. Women are jealous 99% of the time, 99% of the time. That needs to stop. Yes, we say we go out for a guy’s night out, and we GO for a guy’s night out, not some strip club!

Stop questioning us like Dr. Watson questions Holmes on how he solved the case. (Bad reference, I know.) You need to get that part of being jealous out of the equation.

I mean yes, you are entitled to being jealous, it’s cute and sexy at times when you are, we love it, but sometimes it’s just wayyyyyy too much. Trust us. If we love you, we would never hurt you, and we would never cheat on you. Don’t ya worry!

  1. Never ask the question – “How do I look?” –

I’ve been there, and I never will dare to answer it. Ever. Ohmygerd, never.

  1. Say it straight –

Guys don’t get it when a girl says something but means something else. If you want your man to understand what you say, say it straight.

  1. Respect –

Of all the things men want in a relationship, respect is the biggest craving of all. Give a guy respect, and he’ll love you more. Take control of the relationship instead and he’ll shrivel into a shell.

There’s so many more things, but Word tells me I’m reaching 900 words as of now, so I’m gonna stop now. Hopefully. Trying to. Stop. Now.

G’luck, ladies.

PS – I didn’t write this. This was written by a guy (obvious from the tone of the article), who is very special to me. Ahem!

Why Monetizing Your Blog Isn’t Selfish

Provided you have been blogging for quite a while now (or you are good with the internet), you must be knowing that blogs could be monetized.

What does monetize mean?

  • Monetize is to earn revenue. This can be done from an asset, a business etc.
  • Some very common things which are monetized are videos (in youtube for example), websites (blogs for example) and apps.

How do people monetize things?

  • This can be done through ads (google adsense), affiliate marketing, paid reviews or banner ads, providing a service, through eBooks, etc.

Why do people monetize?

  • To earn money (duh!). Money has become almost essential to live nowadays. People need to earn money. They do it by various ways, so why not do it online?

Can you depend on monetizing as a passive method of income?

  • In the beginning, nope I don’t think  so.
  • Later on? Maybe. Depending on how much of hard work you put into it.

The question which had been bothering me for a day or so,

“Is monetizing your blog selfish?”

Here’s reasons why monetizing your blog isn’t selfish,

  1. You aren’t going to earn money from nothing – The basic requirement for monetizing your blog is a  vanity/custom domain, which you have to pay for monthly. The more you earn, the more you pay for your custom domain because you’ll require a bigger domain package. You can’t monetize your blog using a free domain name.
  2. You put in your time and sweat into it – To run a blog successfully isn’t an easy task (you should be able to relate to this). It takes time, hard work and a bit of luck. This can vary from blogger to blogger. Some might take more time (or less) than others to create a successful blog, depending on how hard they work.
  3. You don’t earn money overnight – Earning a passive income through blogging which could be enough for you to quit your day job and stay at home to be a full time blogger takes time. Period. (Unless you hit the blogging lottery.) This takes years of hard work, in average about 5 to 6 years. Some bloggers might still not be able to reach their target and end up quitting blogging entirely.
  4. You might not even earn enough money to compensate the amount you paid for your vanity domain (in the beginning) – This sucks. It’s even a risk in a way, unless you have enough money to spend on a vanity domain per month.
  5. It’s an emotional roller coaster – This could be either positively or negatively. You’ll have your good days, your bad days, your stressed days, your frustrated days, your happy days, etc. It’s almost like a journey of self discovery. Very exciting!

My advice to bloggers who want to try it out?

If writing is your passion, go for it! You only live once. Don’t do it only with the intention of earning money.

If you are thinking about it and want some friendly advice or help, you are more than welcome to ask for it.

Bloggers who still think it’s selfish?

Feel free to comment why you think so. Everyone is entitled to have their own opinions and views, which everyone else should learn to respect.

You don’t think it’s selfish, but you aren’t going to do it anyway?

Cool! If you are kind, be patient with ads of bloggers who are trying it out. If you are extra kind, help out your fellow bloggers who are trying it out by clicking on an ad or two.
Cheers and Happy Blogging!
